How to Share Custom Levels

If you have made a custom level using the Melody Maker you can share your creation with friends and others across the world. Here is a simple step-by-step guide on how to share your levels on other computers and online.

1) When you create a new level the game will ask where you would like to save your new level. The level you save will create two files on your PC based on the name you typed in.

For example:

- ‘Example file name’.stm
- ‘Example file name’.def

These two files contain all your level information and the links to your audio and image/video content. The two files can be saved to any location on your PC, but must be kept in the same place. To find your levels easily, save new levels into individual folders with the ‘.stm’ and ‘.def’ files inside.

2) You’ve created a level now you want to share it with a friend online. Sending your levels is simple as long as you send both the two files together (.stm and .def). Levels could be sent via email, instant message or even posted on this forum. When your friend receives these files they can now access your level within the game, but first they must also have the same audio and image/video content you used to create the level.

3) Now your friend has your level and the content needed to play it, next, load Ongaku and enter the Melody Maker. Select ‘Load Level’ and search for the created level, then after that, select either ‘Start Game’ or ‘Edit Level’ (either one won’t matter there’s still one more thing you have to do!).

4) The game will instantly load the game’s level editor and notify that it can’t find the content needed to play the level. Don’t worry this is normal, all you need to do is follow the on screen instructions and search for the audio and images/video (I’m sure your friend told you what content they used to make the level :P). After this the level is ready to play.
